Thread: Modular vs non Modular Power Supply Units

Modular vs non Modular Power Supply Units

    what I like about modular:
-easier cable management, less time consuming
-easier to get into a case

    What I like about non-modular:
-Cables are always there, no looking in boxes and such
-Never have to worry about pulling the damn connector off when using zip-ties

With that said, i'm rocking with a Corsair TX 850 Watt PSU Non modular

    The Review:

Personally i would get a modular psu if i could but it doesn't make sense to spend so much on a psu just to get a modular when i already have a beefy 850 watt quality psu even if it wasn't modular.

I would really love a chance to upgrade to modular but it doesn't make senses right about now :X

As a comparison, this is what a modular Corsair AX850 850 W looks like

I have a Corsair HX1000W it is modular and its great. allows for better cable management in the case, however its not a crucial thing to have if you're not into modding or always changing your PC parts or upgrading it.

But you also have to consider the $$$ you pay extra just for it being modular, in the end its a personal choice, if you can afford it go modular otherwise go non-modular and either save the extra $$$ or spend it in other PC components if your budget is limited.

That does sound like an insane deal. There's a good article at hardwaresecrets about that PS. They give it a golden award.
NewEgg today still has it at a good price after rebate and promo code about $109 free shipping. I wish I needed a PS. It would definitely be one to consider. How long ago did you buy it?

I have a matx case without a lot of room for cables so modular is pretty important to me. I'm using a Corsair AX850 at the moment.

the number 1 reason why modular psus are so nice ... keeps your rig clean from unecessary clutter.

My last two have been modular. While I do like the modular it still seems like you need to use a lot of cables just to have the number of connectors that you need. On taller cases I've found some cables to be too short.
