Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Sound Card Review

    Xonar Phoebus
    http://rog.asus.com/105462012/sound-...cal-details/2/

In summary, the creative sound card got lambasted from all audiophiles, whereas the upcoming Xonar Phoebus got some good remarks.

So i wonder, how would the Xonar compare to say this realtek audio chip on my Asus Z77 Deluxe motherboard ? Would it be worth getting the Xonar or will it not be such a huge difference ?

Also i am vaguely aware that Windows 7 audio support for hardware accelerated sound cards is horrible. But there is rumors that Windows 8 is going to remedy that. I would love more input regarding this issue :X

I have an Auzentech XFI prelude PCI sound card, unfortunately it won't work on my new mobo because it doesn't have the legacy pci slot. So now i'm rawking with the inbuilt realtek audio chip which seems fine :X (honestly i can't tell much difference, tbh i'm not an audiophile expert to begin with)

use chrome with that link, it will auto translate to the best of its abilities. I have always been pulled towards the fatality sound cards, beinga follower of his professional gaming career, he knows what people are looking for in sound, but I could never justify the price. This Xonar from what I have read is a pretty nice card itself for reasonable prices. 8 years of competitive gaming, and I still use only motherboard sound so I guess I have felt overall that the motherboard sound chips are good enough for me, I have always wanted to see if there is a major difference between mobo sound and a dedicated card.

It's a great card for sure, but without a dedicated 5.1 or 7.1 hardware setup it's wasted. You can get a headphone amp for half (or less) the price, that'll be equally effective for a set of headphones.

It is literally a volume booster. It doesn't make the sound better. But for headphones, you don't really need much else if your set is good. There are 5.1 and 7.1 amps too, which will convert the signal, but it'll set you back more.
